Wake Forest Downtown, Inc. is a certified 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that was formed in 1985 by a group of citizens concerned by the increasing vacancies in Downtown. The founders realized that Wake Forest could not retain its individuality without a solid and vibrant heart. The organization was formed as the Wake Forest Downtown Revitalization Corporation and operated that way until the name was changed to Wake Forest Downtown, Inc. in 2013.
Today, with the support of the Town of Wake Forest, a dedicated group of volunteers continues its work. We’re optimistic about the future of Downtown Wake Forest and hope you’ll be a part of our accomplishments.

Task Force

As one of North Carolina’s 57 designated North Carolina Main Street Communities, WFD follows the Main Street approach in dividing its work among four task forces: Organization, Design and Appearance, Marketing and Promotions and Economic Restructuring for a better Downtown. This approach allows each task force to contribute equally to the vitality of Downtown Wake Forest.

• Design & Appearance
This task force assists with physical improvements in the Downtown area. It works to create a safe, inviting environment for shoppers, workers and visitors. Projects include instilling good maintenance practices, enhancing physical appearance through the rehabilitation of historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, educating business and property owners about design quality and long-term planning.

• Marketing & Promotions
This task force works to create positive branding for Downtown that will encourage community pride and improve consumer and investor confidence in the Downtown area. It provides marketing, promotions and special events.

• Economic Restructuring
This task force works to strengthen Downtown’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. It helps retain and expand successful businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpens the competitiveness and merchandising skills of business owners and attracts new businesses that Downtown Wake Forest can support. It works closely with the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce to provide coordinated Economic Development support for the Downtown area.

• Organization
The Organization task force creates and monitors documents and policy for DRC operations and regulates day to day activities. This group also works to establish consensus and cooperation by building partnerships among the various groups that have a stake in the Downtown area.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the foundation of Wake Forest Downtown’s work. They offer their professional and personal skills to serve on a task force, develop and run special events and even spend time assisting with the clerical duties that keep the WFD office running smoothly. It takes more than 200 volunteers to support the work of WFD annually.
